How Potty Training Pants Can Be Useful

If you think your toddler is ready for potty training, there are some supplies you will need before beginning the process. Potty training pants are a must to replace bulky diapers. They now make different types for boys and girls, some of which have beloved cartoon characters on them. These pull on undergarments are less absorbent than diapers, which means your child will be uncomfortable when wet or soiled yet still retain some protection from leaks. This may encourage them to head to the potty next time rather than using their training pants.

One convenient thing about training pants is that they can be ripped at the sides so you can change your toddler just as you would if they were wearing a diaper. This prevents mess from pulling soiled pants down. However after so long of soiling their training pants, most toddlers are going to express some interest in the potty, especially if they have their own potty seat. There are chairs you put on the floor of your bathroom as well as seats that fit right on your adult toilet.

Allowing your child to choose their potty seat is a good idea because then they will be more likely to use it. If you need some help, pick up a potty training guide for parents or instructional potty training DVD. Or, simply express your concerns to your child's pediatrician. They can provide you with practical potty training tips and even help you determine if you are training your child too early. While some kids are ready for the potty at 18 months, others take quite a bit longer.

Potty training pants are sold in the same aisle as diapers. You will notice they come less in a pack and cost more. You can find generic brands which can save you some money. Some parents use training pants only for night and put their child in underwear during the day. This can certainly save you on the cost of the training pants, and perhaps encourage your child to use the potty because they are wearing big-boy or big-girl underwear. Also, as you might imagine wet or soiled underwear is not comfortable, so after a few accidents your youngster should become more vigilant about using the potty if they are ready to do so.
